Do alumni have access to the Library's online resources?

Answer

Alumni only have access to our online resources while on campus. Alumni are welcome to visit the Library. Please see this FAQ for access instructions.

Off-campus access is only available to current students, faculty and staff. This is not our policy, but rather the legal contract language of our content providers.

The reason behind this policy is that content providers want to protect their proprietary information. They give not-for-profit colleges and universities access to their content at discounted rates. For-profit colleges and corporations pay more for the same information. Colleges and universities get deep discounts because content providers want to expose students to their content and services in hopes that when the student graduates, they will go to their new employer and ask for access to these content providers.

If content providers allowed all colleges and universities to give perpetual access to their alumni, employers/corporations wouldn’t need to license these resources. That would result in lost revenue for the content provider. This is the reason why alumni have been left out of content providers’ licenses at all colleges and universities.
